The Federal Executive Council has approved ₦631.3 billion for nine federal road infrastructure projects across Nigeria. The approvals, announced after Wednesday’s FEC meeting, cover roads in Ekiti, Kogi, Kano, Adamawa and Taraba, as well as remedial works on the East-West Road and rehabilitation of the Sokoto–Illela Road.
The Federal Executive Council has approved ₦631.3 billion for nine road infrastructure projects across Nigeria.
The approval was announced after the FEC meeting held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Works Minister David Umahi briefed State House correspondents after the meeting, which was chaired by President Bola Tinubu.
Among the projects approved is the 81.1-kilometre Ado–Ilawe–Ilumaba–Ikole Road in Ekiti State. Also approved is the 95-kilometre Etuke–Okene–Ankpa–Otopa Road in Kogi State.
The council also cleared the Bichi Ring Road in Kano. Other approved works include road projects in Adamawa and Taraba.
In addition, the package covers remedial works on the East-West Road and the rehabilitation of the Sokoto–Illela Road.
The federal government has not, in the supplied brief, provided a further breakdown of the total sum by project. But the approvals point to a broad spread of road spending across multiple regions, covering both new works and repairs on existing corridors.
Why it matters
Road projects of this scale matter because they affect how people, goods and services move within and across states. Federal approvals for key routes can shape travel times, access to markets and the condition of major transport links, especially where rehabilitation and remedial works are involved.
The spread of projects across different states also shows the government’s focus on road infrastructure in several parts of the country at the same time. For road users and businesses that depend on these corridors, the main issue now will be whether the approved projects move quickly from approval to visible work on the ground.
What it means for your money
There is no direct immediate personal-finance measure in this announcement. However, road construction and rehabilitation can later affect transport costs, vehicle maintenance expenses and the movement of goods if the projects are delivered efficiently.

The next key development to monitor is whether the approved projects move into contract execution and physical construction. It will also be important to watch for any official breakdown of the ₦631.3 billion allocation by project, as well as updates from the Ministry of Works on timelines and progress at the affected sites.
FEC’s approval of ₦631.3 billion for nine federal road projects marks a significant new round of road spending across several states, with attention on both new corridors and repairs. The most important question now is how quickly these approvals translate into actual road work and measurable progress.
